A Day in the Life of – Mobeen Akram

Mobeen is the New Homes Director for Mortgage Advice Bureau. Here, she gives us an insight into the day to day responsibilities of the role and managing work/life balance.

I head up New homes division at MAB, I’m responsible for increasing new homes mortgage distribution within MAB and look after our New homes Appointed Representatives. I hold a central relationship on behalf of MAB with key stake holders within new homes market and government bodies together with UKs largest housebuilders.

What does your morning routine look like?

I’m all about the routine, I wake up at 6am, start with a house tidy, then have breakfast with my son and the school run thereafter. I’ll be back by 8.30am to start my working day at my desk, clear emails and I usually have face to face meetings from 10am onwards.

What does a typical afternoon look like?

I try to have flexible afternoons with a little break so I can collect my son from school at 4pm and will then be back at my desk by 5pm to carry on working.

What do you find to be your most productive time of the day?

First thing, I get all my challenging tasks out of the way early to manage my day better and the catch-up on smaller tasks later in the afternoon. This helps me manage my day better.

How do you manage your time to ensure you have a good work / life / home balance?

Organisation, routine, and lists. If I didn’t have structure of this, I’d never get anything done. I stick to a strict routine, which makes things so much easier.

What is your favourite part of your working day in your role?

I love going to the office for meetings, as I work remote half of the time, I really enjoy being in the office social environment. I’ve got a great team of people who I work with, as well as clients, so forming these relationships makes my job so enjoyable.

What does a typical dinner time look like in your household?

I meal prep for the week every Sunday, so weekday dinners are much easier for me. I enjoy cooking a variety of meals, but timing and prep is key to keeping my busy schedule.

What do you do to unwind?

I enjoy Pilates, it’s great for getting rid of tension. I love long walks with my son, preferably with nice weather.

If you could give one piece of career advice what would it be?

Be confident and believe in your own capabilities. You’ve also got to be willing to put in the hard work and effort to achieve your goals.

How important has your support network been in helping you through your role?

I have been very fortunate that I’ve had a great network, who support me, believe in me and give me the opportunities to succeed.
