My role encompasses the day-to-day management of the business, from advising my clientele, business development to generate new leads, and compliance regulation to uphold the businesses FCA practices.
Usually, I would start with updating our client process boards on any movement from the day before. This could be on the start of new client journeys to updates or amendments to live mortgages cases from underwriters, making sure the team knows what and where the focus is for the day. I would then schedule my diary for upcoming calls/ meetings, to make sure the day runs smoothly.
This is usually where I get my case management time; I will be applying for DIP’s, submitting applications and making calls to BDM’s, or customer support to chase updates or criteria questions for clients. I also run reports on certain aspects of the business, such as pipeline management and bank account reconciliation, based on proc fees and brokers fees we receive.
It would be in the evening when the majority of my clients are back from work and are at home. This is when I can hold meetings to discuss fact finds, or update clients on an application/gather new information the lenders may require.
I get into work by 9 a.m., and I will leave the office at 3 p.m. to continue working from home. This allows me to have the time with my young family before the kids are off to bed. I will the continue working from 6 p.m., up to 9 p.m. on some nights when the workload requires it. With this job, you are able to be very flexible with your time and can cater to the client base you work with.
It would be whenever we receive an offer for our clients, and especially the juicy cases. These are the most enjoyable to receive, as you have put a lot of hours into making it possible. The second best moment is letting the clients know via phone call, to hear the joy in their voices
With young kids it is usually around 4:30 – 5 p.m., where we will eat dinner as a family.
I like to play Xbox and watch TV series when I have some down time. I still play football now and again and have also taken up a keep interest in kickboxing.
It would be to try and take every opportunity you can when it arises. The amount of doors that have opened for me by just saying yes and showing up has gone a long way to putting me in my current position as a Director of my own company.
I owe a lot to my family for supporting me though the transition of being a football player to a full time business owner in the financial services, along with my business directors who have shared the vision of creating Dwello Mortgages, and helping share the load,to enable us to thrive within the first 3 years of operations.
No – I have a Business Management Foundation Degree, but there are many routes into the role and into creating your own business.
