The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) in conjunction with Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association (IMLA) and Diversity and Inclusion Finance Forum have launched a new cross industry mentoring programme. This operates through AMI’s workinginmortgages.org.uk website.
The primary objective of the program is to support people across the mortgage and protection advice industry to enhance their skills and their career potential. It is open to all individuals working within lenders, insurers and the intermediary sector.
Cultivating a career can be as challenging as it is rewarding. Making decisions around which skills to grow and what direction to travel in can lead to plenty of missteps but having a mentor can give you a chance to avoid some of these whilst still learning and growing.
The level of contact is entirely dependent on the preference of the mentee/mentor. During the initial matching phase, you can state your contact preferences and if they don’t align then you can review the other mentors available. We appreciate that things change in your day-to-day careers as well so should you find that you can no longer commit as much as you would have liked, you can mutually agree to pause for a length of time with no hassle.
Our mentoring platform supports remote mentoring, as you can video call through the platform. So, any decision to meet in person would be personal preference.

Our mentoring platform contains several tools to help make you the best mentee/mentor you can be. There is also support available from AMI if you have further support requirements.
Absolutely, we encourage anyone who feels they would benefit from both aspects to sign up. Mentoring is a great way to have in depth conversations with people from similar or vastly different life experiences and this can be invaluable.
Both the mentor and mentee should agree short-term goals to work towards for at least three months, but you are able to extend as much as you require to work towards the goals.
Now! You are never too young or too old to be mentored. A good mentor can help keep a career challenging and fulfilling, even for those in the later stages of their career.
No matter where you are in your career, there is always someone who knows more than you, who can help you gain a better understanding of yourself and improve your skills.
